Why Frisco works for snowmobile-focused trips

Frisco offers the best balance of affordability, restaurants, and proximity to our staging area among Summit County towns. Main Street has 15+ independent restaurants, several bakeries open early enough for sunrise tour starts, and a handful of locally-owned shops where you can pick up forgotten items. Lodging ranges from budget motels along the highway to upscale condos backing onto the bike path that becomes a Nordic trail in winter.

Getting to our staging from Frisco

From most Frisco lodging, the staging area is a 20-25 minute drive south on Highway 91. The road climbs steadily from Frisco (9,075 ft) to our staging (9,400 ft) and continues higher to Leadville. Plan to leave 15 minutes earlier than Google Maps suggests during snowy conditions, and drive with reasonable winter caution because Highway 91 can have icy stretches even when major resorts have plowed roads. We don’t require AWD or 4WD vehicles for the drive, but they help in fresh snow.
